Agricultural production in Ca Mau has transferred towards exploiting rice strengths in the key area to ensure food security, changed a part of low productivity rice land into more efficient aquaculture. In the restructuring of production in recent years, the agriculture still plays an important role in promoting economic development, meeting food needs and partly food needs for the people in the province, contributing to increase income, improve people's life, ensure food security, stablize the market.

Ca Mau people are gradually shifting from thinking about agricultural production to thinking about the agricultural economy.

In 2021, the area of rice cultivation reached 100,083 ha. Total rice production reaches 459,014 tons, reaching 91,8% of the plan and increasing 2.72% compared to the same period. In particular, rice for the 2020 - 2021 crop (shrimp rice and seasonal rice), with a yield of 1.89 tons/ha, a yield of 54,916 tons; winter-spring rice 2020 - 2021, a yield of 6.517 tons/ha, a yield of 232,828 tons; summer-autumn rice 2021, a yield of 5.03 tons/ha, a yield of 171,270 tons. This production satisfied basic food needs of the province, playing an important role in ensuring food security, stabilizing market for economic development.

Ca Mau province has built an organic rice raw material area along the value chain on rice-shrimp land, linking organic rice consumption and production with companies and cooperatives. 

Many effective and sustainable production models have been expanded such as combining aquaculture with many aquatic products on the same area, raising natural fish under forest canopy, pond farming, 1 rotation of rice cultivation - 1 shrimp crop, growing vegetables after rice harvest, etc.

Although cattle and poultry raising activities are concerned by the functional agencies, the implementation results are limited, the effectiveness is not high, due to the local specific conditions, mainly small, sporadic, there are not many effective centralized models, not industrial. Therefore, it has not met the demand of consumers in the province and still faces many difficulties.

In 2021, the production of the herd of pigs released from the barn is estimated at 160,000 animals, reaching 80% compared to the plan, reaching 93.98% compared to the same period. The number of poultry released from the barn that needed to be exported reached 4,500,000, reaching 100% of the plan. The pig production decreased in comparison with the same period, mainly due to African swine cholera, so the repopulation was slow due to the increase in breeding prices. The control and slaughter of 153,070 cattle; 125,461 poultry and the handling of 5,599 kg of meat and offal are of inadequate quality. Vaccinations were administered on 70,494 doses of sepsis, typhoid, cholera, rabies, and foot-and-mouth disease and 354,108 doses of vaccine on poultry.

Livestock farming activities in the province are mainly small.
 

Registration of initial production declaration in the field of animal husbandry: The total number of registrations reached 733,830 (total number of poultry flocks: 647,530; the total number of pigs: 70,999). The total number of initial production registration for the livestock sector reached 15.3% compared to the total herd in 2021.

Currently, Ca Mau province is implementing the Project of restructuring agriculture. Currently, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has actively implemented the implementation steps as planned; at the same time, guide districts and city to review and adjust the implementation plan of specific restructuring projects of the locality.
