Folk have the phrase “fishing round catch fish, fishing distortion catch shrimp”. Fishing is a tool to catch fish, shrimp, it is simple, but ancient and very close to Ca Mau residents.

The fishing are actually assembled from nylon or nylon grids with a surface of about 1 to 2 cm. The fishing is divided into 3 parts: fishing bag, fishing body and fishing cap. The assembly of the fishing requires skills of “craftsman” skilled and experienced. When assembled, the body should be stretched evenly on the surface and not excess, no shortage of grid. The area of the fishing depends on the conditions and grid. If fishing in narrow areas, thick grid, large line and catch small fish and shrimp, its area will be small. On the contrary, the fishing conditions in large areas, thin grid, small line and to catch the relatively large shrimp fish will be larger area. Normally, the diameter of the fish is 3 to 4 meters. However, skilled fishermen with experience, technique and power to throw the fish, the diameter of the fish will be larger. At the bottom of the fishing is assembled a lead enough weight to launch the fishing and make it sink in the water faster. The lead is tied in many sections (up to 3 inches long), upwards and inside the fishing body (called “bag”) so that when it is pulled up, fish and shrimp will be into the fish bag without getting out.

Fishing body are the total area of the grids assembled. The taller body fishing, the large in diameter, larger in area and contra.

The fishing cap is the “navel” of it. This place is tied to a rope (usually 3 to 4 meters longer than the fish's radius) to hold the fish when throwing, to pull up after fishing.

The method of throwing fishing is relatively difficult. The fisherman must be trained, experienced, technical and healthy to do. Before throwing, the fishing is rolled up, the height is near the waist of the fisherman. After that, squeeze one edge of the fish on the shoulder, the other two edges are held in two hands and turn around and then throw. At the same time, the fisherman does not squeeze the edge of the fishing on his shoulder but just a handle on the edge and then turn around to throw the fishing. However, regardless of the type of fishing have to be smooth. Otherwise, “fishing not out”, not catch much shrimp and fish. Good fishermen often throw the fish round, wide, know where there are more fish and less tangled in thorns. Normally, if catch fish, fishermen have less bait, but if catch shrimp, the fishermen usually roast with dried coconut and then circled in the land to throw the bait into the river to lead the shrimp to eat and have to plant the seal. About half an hour later, just throw the fishing to catch the shrimp.

In the past, in Ca Mau countryside almost every households assembled 1-2 fishing to hung in the house to “feed”. When free or no fish to eat, just bring the fish to the bank of canals, ponds around the house to throw a few fishing to catch fish. Fishing is very familiar, close and associated with the life of inhabitants of Ca Mau river. The image of a boat on a river with his wife, a husband who throw fishing, has become a subject of many writers, poets and made famous of many photographers in and outside the country.
