Fishing-net knitting
Knitting (mending) fishing net is a traditional profession, one of the long - standing fishery logistics services having strong attachment with coastal people in Ca Mau.

Ca Mau province has three sides bordering to the sea with large fishing ground; therefore, fishery in Ca Mau is really developed. Accompanying with the fish farming procession, fishing net knitting is implemented with the purpose of providing fishery logistics services, contributing to the supply and repair of fishing equipment for means of exploiting aquatic products on the sea, job creation, increasing income for many labors in rural areas.
Fishing net knitting in Ca Mau developed very strongly in the sea villages such as Song Doc, Da Bac (Tran Van Thoi district); Khanh Hoi, Huong Mai (U Minh district), Cai Doi Vam (Phu Tan district); Rach Tau, Rach Goc, Bo De (Ngoc Hien district).
The main job of workers is knitting and ladling net. After each trip of going out to sea, the fishing net will be changed by the owners of the means. The fishing net which has just been brought from sea will be checked and patched the tattered parts. In addition to the netting, the workers assemble pieces of net to create a finished product. Normally, a fishing net at sea ranges from 130 to 150m, length of over 800m. After completing assembling the net parts, the workers continue to holding buoy, piercing, clamp lead. This is a very important step because it decides for a floating, submerged netting and moderate tension when dropped into the sea. Piercing advice in the same way to pull the net up without being caught, stuck wire. Mesh netting requires skilled workers, experience, techniques and most importantly the net must have slack, elastic, soft so that when the fish come into the siege do not stir, do not break the net out
Net knitting is performed everytime of year and the peak is in the water when the ship arrives. Although the work is quite light but requires workers are hard work and skillful. Most of the workers in Ca Mau are women, some “main workers” are men for hard work and high technical skills. At present, most of the villages in Ca Mau province have a club or a group of women knit and patch. Thereby, contributing to solving jobs, increasing income for idle labor. At the same time, create local fishing gear products, supply and logistics services.
Although silent but net knitting has contributed to the success of the ship after the trip.
