Ca Mau City is located at the Northeast of Ca Mau province. It borders Bac Lieu province to the East, Thoi Binh district to the North and Northwest, Tran Van Thoi district to the West, Cai Nuoc district to the Southwest, Dam Doi district to the South.

The natural area of Ca Mau city is 249,29 km2, equal with 4,71% of the whole province. The administrative boundaries of Ca Mau city has 10 wards and 7 communes. Including: Ward 1, ward 2, ward 4, ward 5, ward 6, ward 7, ward 8, ward 9, ward Tan Xuyen, ward Tan Thanh and communes of An Xuyen, Tan Thanh, Tac Van, Ly Van Lam, Dinh Binh, Hoa Thanh, Hoa Tan. 

By 2019, the population of Ca Mau city has 59,487 households, with 226,372 people, accounting for 19.49% of the province’s population. In which, 111,757 are male and 114,615 are female; 219,031 Kinh people and 7,341 other people.

In urban areas there are 37,899 households, with 143,341 people. In rural areas there are 21,588 households, with 83,031 people.

Ca Mau is a capital city, is recognized urban type 2 on Sep 02nd , 2010 and has finished on building new countryside in 2020.

Ca Mau City is located on Highway 1 from Can Tho to Ca Mau Cape, Quan Lo - Phung Hiep Highway, the National Highway 63 going to many major rivers such as Ganh Hao, Bac Lieu canal flow, convenient to transportation, develop economic - social.
