Dam Doi district located at the SouthEast of Ca Mau province. The North is neighbouring Ca Mau city and Bac Lieu province, Ngoc Hien district to the South, Cai Nuoc district to the West, the East Sea to the East. Its natural area is 822,88km2, accounting for 15,54% of Ca Mau province’s area.

Dam Doi district is divided into 15 communes and 01 town, including communes: Tan Thuan, Tan Duc, Tran Phan, Ta An Khuong, Ta An Khuong Nam, Ta An Khuong Dong, Tan Duyet, Quach Pham, Quach Pham Bac, Tan Tien, Nguyen Huan, Thanh Tung, Ngoc Chanh, Tan Trung, Tan Dan, and Dam Doi town.
By 2019, the district’s population has 43,872 households, with 175,629 people, accounting for 14,37% of the whole province’s population. In which, 88,967 are male and 86,662 are female. 171,323 Kinh people and 4,306 other people.

In urban areas, there are 2,969 households, with 10,476 people. In rural areas, there are 40,903 households, with 165,153 people.
Dam Doi district has 22 kilometre of coastline, with estuaries of Ganh Hao, Ho Gui, Gia Long Den, etc. which are favorable conditions for the development of aquaculture and marine economy. In particular, extensive shrimp farming and industrial shrimp farming thrived. In addition, renewable energy is also developed.
Dam Doi district has 65,584 hectares of shrimp farming land and 7,720 hectares of mangrove forest.
